Welcome!

First, thank you for coming to my blog and showing an interest in me and my photography.  I am so excited to share my images and my life with you.  I hope that you are blessed by it in some way.

Just a little background on how this blog got started so many years ago.  As I stated to do a lot of traveling a few yeas back I start to get e-mails asking where in the world I was.  It was my friend Becker that coined the term, "Where in the World is France."  From there the name of the blog was born.

I have discovered that people often assume I speak French because of my last name but unfortunately I do not.  However, you should know that I am French and my Grandmother grew up in France.  When she moved to the US to start her new life she quickly adjusted to the new language and felt it was important to adapt and learn the new language.  So, yes I am French and no I do not speak the language.

Thank you again for having an interest in me and my work.  Please comment and interact with me.  I would love to get to know you a little better through this blog as well.

La Jolla Wedding at La Valencia ~ Marie & Seth

La Jolla is one of the first places that comes to mind for a photographer in San Diego. Aside from the Beautiful & Famous San Diego Sunsets. You have locations ranging from beautiful San Diego beaches, daring cliffs, lots of art deco shops and La Valencia! La Valencia is definitely my favorite location for an intimate wedding in La Jolla.

You may find me being a little too excited about this wedding but the truth is, I absolutely loved Marie & Seth! This La Jolla Wedding was beyond perfection & the details were magnificent. I absolutely loved the wedding gown, the shoes, the flowers, the couple, the brides tattoo, the birdcage veil, the sweet flower girl, everyone in the wedding party were styled like they were models with their impeccable and totally unique styles.  I could go on and one but most of all I just loved the feeling that came from the bride and the groom the moment they came together for the first time that day.  You could feel the love, excitement and hope in the unity of this family.

Cynthia Zatkin of CZevents was the wedding coordinator and she did such a great job with every detail of this wedding.  Truely incredible.  Especially since the couple is from San Francisco and I know it must be harder to pull everything together when you are working with a client who is from out of town.

Marie (the bride) had a beautiful custom made gown from a local San Diego dress designer, Valena Valentina.  One of my favorite details on the dress was the back and the little jewels that draped down her back.  They were a beautiful accent to her incredible Tattoo.  I am sure that it is not surprise that I love shooting a bride that has tattoos if you have seen the wedding of Joe and Stephanie.

The bride had also selected the cutest pair of Jimmy Choo shoes!  I had never seen this style with straps that wrap around your ankle.  They were perfect and the bride was loving those Jimmy Choo shoes all day which says a lot for comfort.

The wedding took place near the La Jolla Cove at The La Valencia. It is the most beautiful site for an intimate wedding. La Valencia has the Ceremony area overlooking the beautiful private pool and looking out to the La Jolla Cove.  La Valencia also has a endless selection of unique areas for wedding photographers to photograph.  I have photographed several wedding there now and every time I have a completely different favorite spot.  You might remember the getting ready images I shot for Josh and Carrie Cox Wedding or the image I shot in the stair well a couple years ago that was featured in Studio Photography. Every time I shoot there, I always find a new favorite area. It is a wedding photographers dream!

One of my favorite photographs of the day was take by Jeremy as the bride entered the reception.  Having him shoot with me is always a treat.  He is an amazing wedding photographer.img_1591

The grooms two daughters were a huge part of the wedding and the reception.  This is a shot of his youngest daughter singing at the reception.  I have to tell you, watch out for this girl, she was an incredible singer.  I am not just saying that.  Really, really, really incredible!  img_5650

Then the groom’s oldest daughter took over the DJ stand and rocked the house!  Everyone was on their feet!  Wow, two incredibly talented daughters both under the age of 18.  I was totally in shock.  The La Valencia had a record for the most noise complaints set in the 30 minutes that she rocked the house if that give you any indication of how hard she rocked the house.  Impressive!img_5729

Point Loma Nazarene University ASB ~ Portrait

Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) is an amazing college right on the beautiful San Diego Coastline overlooking amazing beaches and famous surf spot, Sunset Cliffs. These students are so kind to any visitor on their campus and they are great standouts to the San Diego Community. One of the ASB members, Darrin Roberts works with a incredible San Diego florist that I work with often, Embellishmint, and he brought me in to photograph a couple events for Point Loma Nazarene this year.  Each year, the school places a photograph of that past years ASB inside the Alumni House to honor the work on each team. I was asked to come shoot this team for their group photo!  We got a great variety of photographs for them to choose from.  Anyone want to guess which one they ended up using for the wall?  Anyone also want to guess which one was my favorite?

Balboa Park, Rose Garden Wedding ~ Jessica & Ricky

I do not know much about golfing, I think Tiger Woods is cool but that is about it. However, I do know a good love story that involves a golf course! Jessica & Ricky first met while both working at top San Diego Golf Course, Riverwalk Golf Course. Ricky worked in the Pro Shop while Jessica worked in the restaurant. Ricky spotted her from across the room and eventually asked her on their first date. The rest of the story is sealed inside a book but I think it involved the police in some way. Don’t ask but never the less the whole thing brought them closer together and eventually to this day.

The engaged couple decided on one of our associate photographer packages after meeting with Jeremy and loving his work and him of course. How could you not love Jeremy?  Their wedding was on a Friday and instead of working in the office for the day I decided to join the adventure of this great San Diego Wedding set in the incredible Rose Gardens in Balboa Park.

Everything that was a part of this wedding was incredible. The ceremony was simple & elegant. The day started with some photographs taken inside the Japanese Friendship Garden at Balboa Park. After some fun with Jessica & Ricky we headed to the Ceremony location, The Balboa Park Rose Garden. We stopped on the way to the reception in the Historic Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego to a couple of my favorite spots for some quick shots. The Gaslamp Quarter has amazing rustic & edgy backdrops that always make a great backdrop.  I love when you can go to so many different locations in one day.

Jeremy got so many great shot but this is one of my favorites of his.  Dancing in the street in downtown San Diego.  You are probably wondering how he was able to get them in the middle of a busy intersection in the middle of down town San Diego.  We will never tell our secrets.

If you are ever looking for a great sports bar & restaurant near the San Diego Beaches, Offshore Tavern & Grill is one of the best. Jessica & Ricky were able to spend some quality time with family and friends there during their reception. It was a fun location when looking for something a bit edgy such as a bar & grill along with the perfect area for a small reception or cocktail party.

Look at how cute these two are.  I call these brides in training.  Or just cute little girls.  Adorable!

jeramy - jeremy. dude! great images. beautiful! i think my favorite is the shot of them in the embrace with their eyes closed. great job!

Ajira - What a lovely, simple wedding. This is a couple after my own heart! I adore the photos in the bamboo... but then I have a thing for bamboo! My favourite though is the one of the bride, Jessica, sitting on the stone thingummy and laughing while Ricky looks on...

Betsy, La Vida - NICE!!! Great set of images! Especially in love with the BW cacti one with all the negative space and the amazing blooming tree photo. Lovely ;-)

Jen Avril-Rae Shanno - Great photos! I always love what you do with your evening shots! You definitely know how to use light to your advantage :)

Wedding Photographer shoots fellow Wedding Photographer ~ David Manning

One of my favorite subjects to photograph is other San Diego Photographers.  It is always an honor and if there is anyone who trusts a photographer’s direction, it is another photographer.  A few months ago I was down in Little Italy doing a second shooter training with a few other San Diego Photographer friends and when we wrapped the light was so beautiful I decided it would be a great time to shoot my friend, second photographer, and fellow SD Photographer, David Manning.

David and I met last year.  He actually tells a funny little story about the meeting on his blog

There is no doubt that David is not a hard subject to photograph.  He loves to have a good time and be goofy but when I ask him for it, there is a serious side that David can bring.  It does take a little coaxing but it is there.  You may remember my twitter comment a few weeks ago and since then everyone has been bugging me to post some of these images.  They all want to know which image made me say, “editing some portfolio shots I did for @DavidManning88 and there is one in particular that made both Nicole and I say, “ooohhh wwwoooowww”  That shot is the last one on the post.  Love David’s expression!  BTW if you do not already follow me on twitter you can find me at @sarafrance

This first shot was taken out side of my friends office, Marc Aguilar, in Little Italy.  His company is called encompus and they do incredible commercial design along with the fact that Marc is the lead guru when it comes to color.  When someone is talking about color Marc is the one they talk to!  He is awesome and an old friend.  We love to tell back in the day stories when we hang out.  Thanks for the great design on the building guys.  Made for a great backdrop!

Wedding Photographer San Diego

I think this one is my favorite photo of David.  It really shows his happy and fun personality but the casual side of his personality as well.

Betsy, La Vida - Oh, great shots of David! I especially like #2 with the expression, lines, oh, and a peek of the Converse tennies ;-)

Cabo San Lucus Wedding Preview

Right now Jeremy and I are in Cabo San Lucas, sitting in the open air lobby of the Riu Palace Hotel in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. It is the most incredible place in the world right now. One, because it is warm with just a light breeze swirling around us. Two, because it is the only place in the resort that has wireless internet but there are a lot worse places to work on your laptop. I can tell you that for sure.

I will fill you in on the full details of the wedding in a later post but just a short run down….Arrived Thursday and found the couple and their friends at the pool bar. Friday included hanging by the pool and shooting a Sunset cruise / rehearsal dinner then we headed out the Cabo Wabo to meet up with some friends. That was the first time we had actually left the resort since we got here. The resort in AMAZING and all inclusive so you don’t really want to leave. Then came wedding day which could not have been more perfect ending with a fire works show.

Today was a great day of rest and recovery after an incredible wedding day yesterday. Today we got up late had a little breakfast and headed to the Marina for some Scuba Diving. I will fill you all in later on more of the fun details because we have another early morning tomorrow which will start with leaving for a road trip to La Paz. For now I wanted to share a few of the images from the wedding.
